These Three Steps Are the Key to a Healthy and Beautiful Smile

Everyone wants a healthy, beautiful smile but many people believe it is not possible for them. While it is true that some people will naturally have healthier and whiter teeth, it is also true that there are steps that can be taken to improve the look and health of any smile. Keep reading to learn the three steps that could change the way you feel about your smile.

  1. Brushing Regularly
  2. If you asked most people what the most important step toward a beautiful smile is, they would likely tell you that it was brushing their teeth. We agree! We know that it can be tempting after a long day to simply drop into bed without brushing. We know that you don’t always want to brush after lunch. We know that even some mornings, it can be tempting to just walk out the door as quickly as possible – and that involves skipping brushing.

Will missing a single brushing affect the overall health of your teeth and gums? It is not likely, but remember that decay and gum disease are both progressive – they do not occur overnight. Remember too that getting into the habit of always brushing, no matter what, prevents one skipped brush from turning into two or three skipped brushes.

  3. Floss Every Night
  4. Believe it or not, there are people out there who love to floss and look forward to it. That said, most people do it only because they know they should. If you are part of the latter camp, then you must get into the habit of flossing even when you really do not want to. It is essential for both tooth and gum health because it gets into areas of your mouth that your toothbrush cannot get to. Flossing is the best way to prevent gum disease and decay.

  5. Keep Your Appointments with Your Dentist
  6. While brushing and flossing are important, they are not more important than visiting your dentist every six months. Doing so allows us to give your teeth a deep cleaning and exam. We can find issues when they are still minor and treat them before they become more difficult, expensive, and painful to treat. If you want a bright, beautiful smile you can be proud of, then you want to visit your dentist at least every six months.
