Learn About the Most Popular Cosmetic Dental Procedures for Seniors

We’ve gone a long way in terms of oral health care in this nation, but there’s still work to be done. As a senior with healthy teeth, you may be considering a cosmetic dentist procedure to improve your appearance. We think it’s a fantastic choice, but you may have reservations.

Keep reading to learn about your options and then contact California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 to make an appointment with a local dentist who can help you.

Dentures Are One of the Most Common Cosmetic Dental Options

If you have lost many or most of your teeth, then dentures might be the choice for you. Many seniors dread this option because they are only familiar with the dentures of yesteryear. The truth is that dentures have only been widely available for about 50 years. In that time, they have gotten much more comfortable, they look better, and they are more affordable.

That said, they are not the right choice for everyone and there are options.

Dental Implants

If you’re a senior, you may recall the days when partial dentures were prevalent – and how painful they might be. Dental implants are now available to replace lost teeth. A dental implant is a two-part device that starts with a metal screw put into the gum and connected to bone tissue directly. The tooth is then covered with a cap to give it the look of a natural, healthy tooth.

Not only does this give the look of a real, healthy tooth, but it will feel that way, too.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge, like an implant, is designed to replace lost teeth — but this one may replace many teeth at once. A portion of false teeth (the “bridge”) will be created by the dentist. The healthy teeth on each side of the gap will be filed down into little nubs. The bridge will next be built over the nubs. This bridge of false teeth will act as a replacement for the teeth that were previously missing.

What is the Best Option for You?

These are only a few of the options available. Do you have something else in mind, such as teeth whitening? Do you want an assessment of your teeth to determine what would be the best way to proceed?
