Invisalign is a simple and intuitive procedure

Going through life with a crooked or misplaced smile can be quite disturbing. A crooked tooth can be quite unruly and cause excessive self-awareness. There are many procedures such as teeth whitening or orthodontic appliances to improve your smile. Some patients do not know that conventional orthodontic and Invisalign braces are very different devices in how they are made and use. Traditional orthodontic braces use wires to tighten the teeth to make teeth straight. A simpler method to make teeth straight is Invisalign. These transparent plastic mouth guard like orthodontic appliances are a great way to align your teeth without changing your normal routine or lifestyle significantly. Unlike most traditional orthodontic braces that may be visible, Invisalign is a translucent orthodontic appliance.

How are my Invisalign made and what to expect during treatment

Your Invisalign orthodontic is molded specifically for your teeth. The material used to manufacture Invisalign is made from medical grade resin. If you have wonder how exactly they are made, lets learn about how it’s done.

During your first visit to the orthodontist, the dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and make recommendation on how straighten your teeth. During this visit, the dentist will take photos of your smile to document the treatment progress. These images serve as a map to help align your teeth. Once your teeth are mapped, a 3D model of your teeth can be made to simulate how your Invisalign will straighten your teeth over time and how the final results may look like.

Once the images are taken, the images are sent to an Invisalign lab where they are made specifically for you. There will be a number of aligners used over the course of your treatment. For this reason, you will need multiple Invisalign aligners made about every two weeks. The Invisalign manufacture will create aligners using the detailed images along with consultation from your dentist if treatment needs to be changed. Typically, you will be required to wear the Invisalign for at least 20 hours a day for about two weeks each. You will visit your dentist regularly to check the progress of your treatment. During this time, it will be a great time to ask your dentist questions about your treatment progress.
