Is Anyone Celebrating National Dentist’s Day?

March 1, 2016

March 6 may be National Dentist’s Day, but dental care is a year-round occupation.

Is Anyone Celebrating National Dentist’s Day?Besides the handful of well-known holidays we have each year, there are countless more days, weeks, and months designated to raise awareness of one cause or another. Many of these events were set up as marketing tactics and never really caught on once promotional efforts stopped.

For example, did you know that March 6 is White Chocolate Cheesecake Day and National Dentist’s Day? It seems a bit contradictory, doesn’t it? Perhaps the organizers of these days expected you to report to the dentist after drenching your teeth in that sweet, sugary cheesecake.

National Dentist’s Day was probably established as an event to raise awareness of the importance of visiting the dentist and as an opportunity for patients to express appreciation of their dentists.

But in reality, dentists don’t just want words of thanks. The best gift you can give your dentist is to take good care of your teeth every day of the year. After all, at California Dental Group our top priority is keeping your teeth clean, healthy, and protected from the top two causes of tooth loss, namely gum disease and tooth decay. We need your help to accomplish this!

Here are some daily dental care tips that you can practice at home. Your dentist will thank you.

Brush daily: Both tooth decay and gum disease can easily be prevented with proper oral hygiene. This includes brushing teeth at least twice per day using a soft-bristled toothbrush and anti-cavity toothpaste.

Don’t forget to floss: Because brushing can’t reach everywhere, you need to floss at least once per day. Be sure to get in between each tooth and also clean along the gum line.

Beware of acidic foods: Many people don’t realize that acidic foods like citrus, soda, and energy drinks can erode tooth enamel. To minimize this, rinse your mouth out with water after eating or drinking anything acidic.
