Follow These Three Simple Steps to Greatly Improve Your Oral Health

Everyone wants the best oral health possible but not everyone knows exactly what to do to get it. If you have specific dental concerns, we urge you to contact a local California dentist to make an appointment. If you want to learn the three most important steps you can take to improve your oral health, keep reading.

  1. Floss Your Teeth
  2. Those who floss regularly are making smart choices for their overall oral health. Unfortunately, many people report either never flossing or flossing very irregularly. What’s worse, is that the lack of flossing can actually lead to further avoidance because when a person does not floss regularly, they are more likely to have bleeding, sore gums.

When a person begins to floss, they may have these issues initially but once they have improved their oral health, their gums should no longer bleed or be sore. Flossing does take some time to add to your routine but it is well worth it when you consider the impact it can have on the health of your gums and teeth.

  3. Brush Your Teeth
  4. This is not a surprise but it is important enough that we must emphasize it: Brush your teeth at least twice per day. If you are able to do so, brush after each meal. It can be easy to skip brushing “just this once” when you are tired at the end of the day, or when you are rushing out to greet the day. Unfortunately, this can quickly turn into a pattern that is difficult to get out of. If it truly happens once in a blue moon, it is not likely to have a lasting impact. However, if you make it a habit then you could quickly see serious issues with your teeth and gums.

  5. Get Preventative Care
  6. Taking steps at home is important but remember that it is not enough in and of itself. You should also be seeing your dentist every six months or as often as they recommend. Doing so removes plaque and tartar, which can only be removed by dental instruments. If they are not dealt with, serious decay could occur.

Visiting the dentist is also the best way to find out about issues before they become huge problems. For example, the first stage of gum disease is gingivitis. It may have minor side effects like bad breath and tender gums, but many people have no idea they have it until they visit their dentist. When it is caught and treated early, it is entirely curable. If it is not dealt with until it has progressed, it can result in serious issues including losing your teeth.

If you are ready to take the next step to take care of your oral health then we recommend you contact California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 to find your local dentist.
