Various Forms of Cosmetic Dentistry can Make Your Smile Brighter

Enhance Your SmileIf you are embarrassed by your crooked, stained, cracked, or missing teeth, you may want to consider cosmetic dentistry. Dentists trained in performing these procedures can help you improve your self esteem, your biting surfaces, and create a smile that you will be proud to display everyday.

Reshape Your Smile With Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a common form of cosmetic dentistry utilized by many dental patients. Made from a thin and durable form of porcelain, veneers are custom made to match your teeth color and shape. Once the pieces are constructed, they are bonded to the front sides of your teeth. It is important to understand that veneers are not a permanent fix and they will have to be maintained and replaced as time goes on. However, veneers can be utilized in the following dental situations:

  • Disproportionately sized teeth.
  • Discolored or stained teeth.
  • Chipped, crack, or thinning teeth.
  • Uneven or unwelcome spaces between teeth.

The process of the veneer process can typically be completed during two office visits. During the first visit, your teeth will be delicately reshaped and buffed in order to prepare them for the veneers. A mold of your teeth and bite will also be taken in order to match the veneers to your existing mouth shape. Finally, you and your dentist will work together to find a shade that matches your surrounding teeth.

During the second visit your teeth will be bonded to the veneers with a special dental bonding cement. This is a fairly simple procedure that can usually be done with little to zero anesthesia. Once your veneers are in place, your dentist will provide you with care and follow up instructions.

Porcelain Fixed Bridges

Another common form of cosmetic dentistry is porcelain fixed bridges. These are utilized when you have missing teeth and do not want to undergo a dental implant. Closely resembling your own teeth, bridges are permanent fixes for creating durable and lasting teeth. The process of receiving a bridge involves several trips to your dentist’s office where they will prepare your current teeth for crowns and take molds of your teeth and gums. Once the surrounding teeth are prepared for the bridge, your dentist will insert your porcelain bridge. This bridge will require careful maintenance over the years but it will provide you with a bright smile and strong biting surfaces.
