These Four At-Home Methods Could Help You Get Whiter Teeth

Who wouldn’t like a brighter smile? If you’re considering teeth whitening services but want to first begin by trying some options at home, then we have you covered. At California Dental Group we often suggest these basic at-home options that can help maintain white teeth in conjunction with our teeth whitening and other cosmetic dentistry services. Read on to learn more and then reach out to us at (800) 407-0161 to set up an appointment.

1.Brush your teeth more often

You may think this tip is too simple or obvious, but it’s the best way for you to get and maintain white teeth. This doesn’t just mean a quick brush in the morning and another quick brush in the afternoon. It means brushing your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day. We recommend first thing in the morning and then before you go to bed. Ideally, you’d carry a portable toothbrush with you and brush after lunch and snacks as well. If this isn’t already part of your daily routine then you may be surprised by how much of an effect it can have on the color of your teeth.

2.Don’t do things that stain your teeth

While you may be tempted to focus on things to do to remove stains you already have, it’s also wise to remember to look at ways you can prevent future stains. Smoking is well-known as a tooth-stainer, but it’s not the only thing. Coffee, soda, and wine can also stain your teeth. If you do want to drink them, try using a straw to keep the beverages from having maximum contact with your teeth. Any beverage that’s dark has the potential to stain your teeth.

3.Use your own unique toothpaste and mouthwash

There are many advanced toothpastes and mouthwashes on the market. Some of them can do wonders for helping to whiten your teeth, while others can actually make the situation worse. The best way to find the right combination for your unique needs is to ask us when you come in for your appointment. You can also try some vintage options used by your grandparents: Baking soda as toothpaste and hydrogen peroxide as mouthwash. These aren’t great tasting choices but they’ve been around for decades for a reason.

4.Let fruit do its work

Some fruits do more than provide vitamins and minerals – they act as at-home tooth whiteners. Some examples include lemon rinds, orange peels, and strawberries. If you want to use strawberries, just must up a few of them and rub them on your teeth. Rinse out your mouth and do it a few more times. The orange peels and lemon rinds can be rubbed directly on your teeth.

While none of these options take the place of professional teeth whitening, they’re all simple things you can do to improve the color of your teeth. To make an appointment to learn more about professional options, please reach out to California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 today!
