Do You Want to Improve Your Oral Health?

Most people could stand to improve their oral health but not everyone knows how to. The best option is to contact a California dentist who can assess your current oral health and offer advice on how to best improve it. Reach out to California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 to do that, but in the meantime, you can read about four rules to follow if you want to improve your oral health.

  1. Eat healthier
  2. Having a balanced diet is essential to having good oral health. What you eat not only impacts your overall health, but the health of your teeth too. If you aren’t getting enough vitamins and minerals then your teeth could suffer. If you eat too much sugar or too many acidic foods then your teeth could suffer. Improving your diet can be helpful for the entire body.

  3. Brush your teeth twice a day
  4. Most people have heard that they’re supposed to brush twice a day but not everyone does it. Doing so can make a huge difference. We also suggest that you take this time to make sure you’re brushing correctly. You should brush slowly and softly, at least for three minutes. Brush in a circle motion – not back and forth.

  5. Floss daily
  6. We’ve read the research in past years that has started to doubt the importance of flossing. At California Dental Group we believe this is a topic worth researching but we also believe that there is currently not enough evidence for us to support not flossing. After all, can food get caught between your teeth? Of course it can – and food between the teeth can cause decay. Brushing is the first step toward cleaning the teeth but flossing finishes the job.

  7. Go to the dentist at least twice a year
  8. Most of our clients see us every six months. This allows us a change to clean the teeth, examine them for any potential issues, and check for gum disease. As is true of much medical conditions, the sooner you uncover dental issues, the easier it is to fix them.

Take cavities for an example. A minor cavity can be fixed with a filling in less than half an hour. This is a relatively painless process and allows you to keep your tooth. However, if that cavity is left to fester it can not only permanently damage the tooth to the point that you may lose the tooth, but that decay can spread to other teeth. This is just one example of why finding oral health issues sooner rather than later is the ideal.
