August 25, 2014

Improved SmilePorcelain veneers are extremely thin materials that are designed to improve your smile. They are bonded to the surfaces of natural teeth and can alter the size, shape, or length of them. The porcelain is highly resistant to stains, which guarantees that you have a white smile for years to come. There are several reasons for why people decide to obtain veneers, and there are a few steps necessary to giving you the results you desire.

Why People Acquire Veneers

Over time numerous problems can plague your teeth, and veneers can be used to fix several of the most common issues:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Worn down teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Gaps in between teeth

For all of these reasons people seek the help of veneers. It is important that you consult with your dentist before resolving to obtain the procedure. He or she will be able to tell whether or not it is the appropriate option for your particular problem.

What to Expect When Receiving Veneers

There are three steps involved with obtaining veneers, and when they are completed, you will be able to enjoy a bright, new smile. The first step is to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan from your dentist. It is at this point that you must tell your dentist what you hope to achieve by getting the veneers. He or she will then examine your mouth to determine whether or not the they are right for you. X-rays and impressions will also be taken at this particular appointment. In order to prepare you for the procedure, your dentist will remove approximately half a millimeter of enamel from the teeth that the veneers will be bonded to. More impressions will be taken at this point, which will be sent to a laboratory for the purpose of constructing the veneers. It will take about one to two weeks for the materials to be created. Bonding is the last step of the procedure. Before cementing the veneers to your teeth, the dentist will determine that they are the right color and size. If they need to be slightly altered, the dentist will be able to sculpt them to achieve the proper look. After your teeth have been cleaned and polished, the veneers will be bonded to them with a special cement. They are then secured through the use of a light beam, which hardens the cement.
