Regular Visits to the Dentist Teach Your Children Important Lessons

You would be hard pressed to find a parent who doesn’t know that they should take their child to the family dentist regularly. That said, at California Dental Group we find that many parents don’t realize how many benefits there can be to taking your child to the dentist. Keep reading to find out why we so strongly recommend regular dental visits for kids. Then contact us at (800) 407-0161 to make an appointment.

They learn that dentist visits are simply a part of life

When you start taking your child to the dentist when they are young, they will be completely used to the process by the time they are out on their own. They will view going to the dentist for a dental exam and cleaning as something that needs to be done without thinking about. This will help encourage them to continue to make their own appointments as they get older.

They learn good oral hygiene habits

Your child should know to visit the dentist every six months but they should also know how important it is to brush and floss regularly between dental visits. We believe that the more people encourage your child to brush and floss, the better. You surely tell them every night, but having a dentist in a place of authority discuss the importance – and the correct way to brush and floss – could have a big difference.

They learn the consequences of poor oral health habits

If your child does not brush or floss regularly between dental visits, it will show. When they are able to see the consequences of their decisions within a few months, it can make a big impact on them. Compare this to a child who may leave their parent’s home at 18 and not visit a dentist for five years. By that time, they could have all sorts of oral health issues but blame it on any number of things. With so much time since their last visit, it is harder to pinpoint what they did wrong and show them how the issues are related.

We can catch issues early

Ideally, your child will never get a cavity. They will not develop gum disease. They will not have impacted wisdom teeth. The reality is that almost everyone will experience one – if not more – of these issues. The sooner we see the problem, the easier it likely is to fix. In every case, the sooner we find an oral health issue, the more affordable and easier it will be to treat.

If you have a child who has a tooth then you have a child who should be visiting the dentist. If you are ready to make an appointment, contact California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 right away.
