Just the Facts: Learn What to Expect if You Choose a Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is an excellent choice for restoring lost teeth if you are missing one or two teeth in a row. However, there are certain disadvantages to this form of tooth replacement. In this article, we’ll go through the basics of dental bridges.

What is the difference between a dental bridge and a dental crown?

A dental bridge is a prosthesis that is made up of three or four crowns that are cemented together in a row. Your lost tooth or teeth are replaced with the middle crown or crowns. The end crowns are used to secure your replacement teeth in position by going over the teeth on each side of the gap.

What does it take to get dental bridges?

The following are the stages involved in getting a dental bridge:

  • Preparing the anchor teeth: Because the teeth that will anchor the bridge must be robust and healthy, a root canal or other treatment may be required as a preliminary step before receiving a bridge. In order for the crowns to fit over the anchor teeth, they must be filed down.
  • Taking an impression: We need to obtain comprehensive measurements of your mouth in order to design a bridge that appears natural and fits properly. Traditional rubber putty imprints or a digital scanner can be used for this. The iTero scanner is used at California Dental Group to swiftly and comfortably capture precise measurements.
  • Making the bridge: The next step is to place an order with the dental lab for the bridge. Ceramic bridges may be produced rapidly and to a high quality level using the latest computer-aided technologies.
  • Installing the bridge. The bridge should be ready to be permanently erected on the same day it was ordered if computer-aided technology is employed. Otherwise, you’ll have to install a temporary bridge and return in a few days to install the real bridge.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of dental bridges?

Dental bridges are a cost-effective and less intrusive technique to restore lost teeth. There is no need for surgery, and the recovery period is far shorter than with dental implants. Dental bridges, on the other hand, do not last indefinitely. They are prone to deterioration on the teeth that hold the bridge in place. Bits of food and germs can also become trapped under the bridge, causing gum disease and further deterioration of the repair.
