Follow These 5 Tips for the Best Breath PossibleNobody wants bad breath yet millions of American simply don’t know how to ensure their breath is fresh. Then reach out to California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 to set up a cleaning and exam. We can help ensure it’s not a medical issue.

  1. Brush your teeth twice daily
  2. Most people brush an average of once a day but they should be brushing twice a day. This is necessary to get rid of plaque that would otherwise build up. Remember that plaque is a combo of bacteria, bits of food, and mucus. When not cleaned off promptly, it can turn into tartar. Tartar, which is essentially just hardened plaque, can only be removed by your dentist. If left untreated, it can irritate the gums, cause bad breath, and even cause gum disease.

  3. Floss daily
  4. You may not think of your flossing habits as having much to do with your breath but if you want fresh breath then you should be flossing. Why? Because your toothbrush can’t necessarily get in between your teeth to get rid of food. No matter how small they are, if food particles stay in your mouth they can begin to rot and result in bad breath.

  5. See your dentist twice a year
  6. We highly recommend a cleaning and exam twice a year. This not only gets rid of plaque and helps ensure that your teeth are clean, but it also allows us to catch dental issues earlier. The earlier we can find them, the less serious the long-term issue will be.

  7. Pay attention to your diet
  8. What you eat can have a huge impact on your breath. Anything that’s heavily seasoned, has a lot of garlic, or has a lot of onion is going to cause bad breath in the short term. Note that this goes well beyond when you eat the food, as it will make its way into your bloodstream and be breathed out through your lungs.

On the flip side, there are foods you can eat that will actually freshen your breath. Stick to fruits that have a lot of Vitamin C and veggies filled with fiber. This fiber can boost your saliva production, which gets rid of bacteria.

  9. Don’t smoke
  10. If you are a smoker then the single tip that will have the biggest impact is to quit smoking. You already know that it is bad for your health and you likely know that it is bad for your gums too. Yet another reason to quit – it gives you bad breath.
