Get Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Dentistry

If you’re unhappy with the way your teeth look then you’re likely considering cosmetic dentistry. It’s also true that you likely have many questions. At California Dental Group we’re always happy to answer your questions if you call one of our seven locations. You can also read on to get answers to some of our FAQ about cosmetic dentistry.

What exactly is cosmetic dentistry?

Often the first thing we’re asked is what cosmetic dentistry entails. You know that your traditional dental appointments focus on oral hygiene. We may treat or prevent diseases like gum disease and we may do minor repairs to damaged teeth. Cosmetic dentistry takes it a step further and focuses exclusively on improving our patients smiles, teeth, and mouths. As with any type of medical practice, there are limits to what we can do but we believe you’ll find out services more comprehensive than you think.

Is there any way to fix jagged teeth?

Of course! In many cases, all we need to do to fix your jagged teeth is to reshape the edges. We can even do this without giving you Novocain or any other type of anesthetic. There isn’t a lot of chipping involved, instead we polish and / or sand your teeth down to get the height you want to ensure they’re all straight. With more severe damage, a crown or veneer may be necessary.

What’s the difference between a veneer and a crown?

Dental crowns and veneers are similar in that they are both attached to a damaged tooth, but there is one big difference: A tooth veneer covers only part of your tooth while a crown covers the entire tooth. Veneers are made of either porcelain or plastic, while crowns are generally made of porcelain. As you might imagine, veneers are more common with teeth that have less damage while crowns are necessary for teeth with significant damage.

Can my discolored teeth be fixed?

Everyone’s teeth will discolor given enough time, and certain things can speed up the process: cigarette smoking, certain illnesses and conditions, and regularly drinking dark drinks like red wine or coffee. At California Dental Group we offer a variety of teeth whitening services to help make you feel more comfortable with and confident in your smile.
