3 Common Oral Health Issues That Can Be Prevented by Regular Visits to the Dentist

Being able to get to the dentist twice a year is a luxury that many people don’t have. Making sure that you take advantage of this option can keep your teeth in great shape. In fact, at California Dental Group we’ve compromised a list of three common oral health issues that can be 100% prevented if you come to us for regular checkups.

Your typical dental exam and cleaning will involve us removing plaque, x-rays or radiographs as needed, a deep cleaning, and fluoride as requested. We’ll also take a look and see if you have early cavities forming or any other common oral health issues. The following issues can even be prevented if you see your dentist regularly.

Avoid losing your teeth by visiting the dentist on a regular basis

Many people think of missing teeth as an issue that only senior citizens deal with, but according to a survey by the American Dental Association, missing three or more teeth is relatively common among adults between the ages of 20 and 64. Teeth can fall out on their own for a lot of different reasons, but regular teeth cleanings and exams can prevent the type of disease that would lead to teeth falling out.

If you’ve lost your teeth already, whether due to injury or another issue, it’s important to have your teeth looked at right away. Modern dentistry offers a wide range of options include dentures, dental implants, and bridges. If you don’t get these teeth replaced, they could cause serious issues for the remaining teeth around them.

Gum disease can be prevented

So many people have gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, that they often think it’s just a normal issue that everyone deals with. The reality is that not everyone has gum disease but everyone should hope they never get it. Why? Because it’s one of the most severe oral illnesses around. Generally speaking, it begins with red, inflamed gums. This can happen without other symptoms and can generally be avoided entirely by getting dental exams every six months.

If you do already have gum disease, then California Dental Group can help. The right way to treat it will depend on how advanced it is.

Oral cancer can be treated before it becomes serious

Oropharyngeal cancer is one of the most serious oral illnesses there is. It involves your throat, your taste buds, and every part of your mouth. Generally, the first symptoms are changes in your bite, numbness in your mouth, inflammation of the gums, checks, and tongue, and bleeding in your mouth. If it is caught early enough, it can be treated with great success. If it spreads, it can become deadly.

As you can see, there are many reasons to visit your California dentist on a regular basis. If it’s been more than six months since your last appointment, then we recommend you call California Dental Group at (800) 407-0161 right away.
