What is a cavity?
A cavity is a permanent damaged area on the hard surfaces of teeth that develop into tiny holes or openings. Cavities are also called tooth decay or caries. Cavities are caused by bacteria in the mouth that convert plaque to acid. Cavities can be repaired with composite fillings. If cavities are left untreated, the damages to the tooth enamel worsens leading to severe toothache, infection, and loss of teeth.
