Ontario CA was originally part of a “model colony” or planned development. In an effort to attract new residents, a fountain was erected near the train station and turned on whenever a passenger train was expected as a way of displaying an “abundance” of water. Today this fountain can be viewed at the Ontario Museum of History and Art.
